The Blair Area Community Band was organized in March of 1994. Mr.
Joe Chapman, founder and director of the band, surveyed the area to determine if there
were enough interested musicians to form a community band. The response was
overwhelming and the first concert was held in the summer of 1994. The band is made
up of musicians from the communities of Bancroft, Bennington, Blair, Fort Calhoun,
Elkhorn, Fremont, Herman, Lyons, Oakland, Omaha, Schuyler, Tekamah, Valley, West Point,
and Yutan in Nebraska; and from Logan, Missouri Valley, and Woodbine in Iowa. There
are no auditions for membership, which is open to any musician who enjoys playing band
music.
In June of 2010 Joe Chapman
stepped down as musical director of the band and Jeff Mount became the director.
Articles of Incorporation were filed as a
non-profit corporation in the State of Nebraska. The purpose of the band is to
promote, encourage, and increase the knowledge, appreciation and practice the art of
instrumental music. The band is funded through donations. Monies are used to
purchase music and accessories for the band.
