General News

A special thank-you to all who helped at the Blair Recycling Center on Saturday, April 26th.

Please welcome our newest Blair Rotarian, Lana Pleak.  Lana has been a resident of Blair for over 22 years and works at the Blair Memorial Community Hospital.

The club is planning a golf tournament on June 27th at the Rivers Wild Golf Course.  Please reserve that date and plan to help with the tournament.  All members will be asked to create and or promote a four-some.

Centennial Project - the deadline for submitting the club's Centennial Project is drawing near.  A possibility is working with other groups on the restoration and upkeep of the Brewster Cemetery.  Additional information regarding this project will be forthcoming.

Notes from the April 22nd  Meeting -  Program Chair - Dave Bohling

Dave's guest for the day was Dr. Milt Heinrich, Professor of Art at Dana College.  Dr. Heinrich has been at Dana for over 30 years and has a number of significant works throughout the region.  Dr. Heinrich's work typically tells a story through imagery.  Often his works are constructed using metal, clay and wood and there are usually layers of meaning within each piece.

The following projects are examples of the works Dr. Heinrich has completed in the local area:

Dr. Heinrich is currently working on two projects in Blair.  The first is the Washington County Veteran's Memorial to be constructed at the intersection of Highway 75 and Washington Street, adjacent to the American Legion Building.  The second is a large wall mural listing the names of all contributors of $5,000 or more to the Dana College Legacy Campaign.

Although Dr. Heinrich enjoys working on his projects, he stresses that his first love is teaching.  The ability to expose students to the process of preparing bids for projects and receiving commissions, provides a valuable insight for his students.
