Notes from the June 13th Meeting - Program Chair - George Hall

Sandy Kucerr, who owns Too Far North, a new wine tasting business in Fort Calhoun, was the program guest for the day.  Sandy grew up in Omaha and graduated from UNL with a degree in journalism.  She recently moved back to the area after her husband retired as an officer in the US Marines.  Their last tour of duty was at Camp Pendleton in California which is near the wine making area of Temecula.  It was there that the couple grew their interest in grape and wine production.

Too Far North is located across from the Washington County Historical Society on the main street of Fort Calhoun.  The business features Nebraska grown or produced products.  They currently have 105 wines from the twelve Nebraska wine producers.  In addition to Nebraska wine, they also promote other Nebraska products such as cheese, bread, sausage and chocolates.  The cost for wine tasting is four samples for $5 or $5.50 for a glass ($6.00 for a premium selection).

Given Sandy's background in journalism and web design, she also provides customized bottle labeling for gifts and special occasions.  The cost is $6 per label and can feature graphics, pictures and other information commemorating an event or promoting a business or activity.  If you would like additional information on Too Far North, you can visit their website at:  www.toofarnorthwine.com

Rotary Question of the Week

How does a person become a Rotary Foundation Sustaining Member?

Rotary Fact of the Week (from  the RI or District Website)

When you make a contribution to Rotary, you can be assured that your gift will be used to its fullest by Rotarians throughout the world.  Beginning in 2004-05, Rotarians who give US$100 or more to the Annual Programs Fund will automatically become Rotary Foundation Sustaining Members (RFSM).

Frequently Asked Questions about the Sustaining Member Program

Do my Rotary Foundation Sustaining Member gifts count toward Paul Harris Fellow Recognition?

Yes. All gifts given through the Sustaining Member program go to the Annual Programs Fund and are eligible for and count cumulatively toward the Foundation’s various recognition programs.

I am already a Paul Harris Sustaining Member. Do I need to become a Rotary Foundation Sustaining Member as well?

Prior to November 1998, Sustaining Members were often referred to as Paul Harris Sustaining Members. That name is no longer applicable; the Foundation’s Trustees have clarified the definition of Sustaining Members, and they are now referred to as Rotary Foundation Sustaining Members.

I have been a Sustaining Member for the past five years. Does that qualify me to become a Rotary Foundation Sustaining Member?

As of January 2001, the Foundation has obtained the technology to track its Rotary Foundation Sustaining Members. Those who contribute US$100 or more each year will be recognized as Rotary Foundation Sustaining Members.

Please note that previous contributions to the Rotary Foundation are not lost. All contributions given previously to the Sustaining Member program still count toward Paul Harris Fellow, Multiple Paul Harris Fellow, and Major Donor Recognition.
