Notes from January 9th - Program Chair - Peggy Lambrecht

Peggy's guest for the day was artist Liz Vercruysse.  Liz talked about Big Table, her pottery studio located between Blair and Herman about a mile west of Highway 75.  Big Table Studios has been open since March of 2004.  With two wood burning kilns and a large working studio space, Big Table offers firing and artist work exchange programs as well as classes and a sales gallery.  The studio is owned and operated by Liz and her partner John Martelle.

The studio is unique because it uses wood fired kilns.  These types of kilns create unusual distinctive designs on the pottery as it fires.  One of the kilns used has a capacity of 300 to 400 pots and will take up to five days to fire the pottery.  Artists from the surrounding area may participate in the fire.  If you would like additional information on the studio please contact Liz at: lizvercruysse@hotmail.com or call 456-7669.

Rotary Question of the Week

January is known as what month for Rotarians?

Rotary Fact of the Week (from  the RI or District Website)

During Rotary Awareness Month in January, help expand awareness of Rotary’s global humanitarian efforts. As members of the world’s first service club organization, Rotarians have much to be proud of as they put Service Above Self while advancing world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty.
