Author Shirley Jipp burrows back into images of her childhood in the sand hills of Wheeler County, Nebraska.

When Shirley Jipp was a youngster, living on a Sandhill farm near Ericson in Wheeler County, Nebraska, her parents often told stores about their families -- stories that sometimes went back to their grandparents.

Shirley's first eight years of education were in a one-room school. Following high school, she taught in two country schools and in a small town.  Those years were interspersed with classes at Kearney State Teacher's College for one year and several summers.

After her marriage and the birth of three children, Shirley graduated from a 3-year correspondence course at Famous Writers School in Westport, Connecticut.  Still vividly remembering the stories told by parents and stories of her own childhood, she began publishing. Sand Beneath My Shoes, a compilation of published and unpublished stories, is Shirley's first book.
