If
you have call waiting on your phone line but don't disable it before you
connect to the Internet an incoming call will frequently disconnect you.
Some people like this feature as it
enables them to continue to receive calls while another family member is
on the Internet. But if you don't like these frequent
disconnects you should set your system to disable call waiting when it
dials. This is easily accomplished through your dialer.
Win95/98 users can set their Dial Properties to automatically dial the
code to disable call waiting when they place a call to the Internet.
For
Windows 9x:
-
Open
My Computer and then Dial up Networking.
-
There
should be a connection in here related to you internet connection, open it (Figure
1).
-
Once
in the Connect To screen click on Dial Properties at the lower right
hand corner (Figure
2).
NOTE:
If Dial Properties is disabled, hit cancel. Then Right click and left click on Properties. Under the Properties
screen put a check beside "Use Area Code and Dialing
Properties" and click on OK at the bottom. Repeat step 3.
-
In
the middle of the Dial Properties screen put a check beside "To
disable call waiting dial:" and select *70, from the drop down
box to the right (Figure
3).
These
steps will only disable call waiting while you are on the internet.
As soon as you get off the internet it will automatically enable call
waiting again.
