Microsoft
implemented a new line of security with the newest version of Internet
Explorer. Internet Explorer 6 comes installed by default on all
versions of Windows XP, and many people have upgraded to the
software. When you install Internet Explorer, it also installs
Outlook Express, as a bundled package. The problem is that by
default Outlook Express installs itself with a attachment filter
enabled. This filter, blocks you from viewing any files on the
Microsoft unsafe file list. You can find that list at http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=291369.
Disabling this feature is
rather simple. You can use Microsoft's Knowledge Base Article,
located here: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=291387,
which
or you can follow the
steps listed below.
-
Open Microsoft Outlook
Express
-
Click on the tools
menu.
-
Click on options from
the drop down menu.
-
On the window that
pops up click on the SECURITY tab.
-
Uncheck the box that
says "Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that
could potentially be a virus".
-
Click ok.
This should take care of
the problem. If you continue to have problems after performing
these steps, please call the helpdesk. Our contact information can
be found by
clicking on the "contact"
link at the top of this page.
