Do you want your computer to run without
errors?
Would you like your computer to shut down when you
tell it to?
Do you want to keep your computer
up to date with the latest fixes and patches?
If the answer is "YES" to any of
the questions above, then you must start by running Windows Updates.
Windows Updates are free updates that fix many
bugs or problems that appear after Windows has been
installed on your computer. You can download them from http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com
by choosing Product Updates. After choosing Product Updates, Windows will
automatically customize itself for your computer. (Figure
1)
Windows Update is an extension of Windows98,
designed to help your computer continue to work better and run better. Windows
Update has a central catalog called Product Updates that includes new product
enhancements such as system files, device drivers, service packs, and new
Windows features. These enhancements will be recommended to you based on what is
needed for your specific computer.
The most important items to choose are the Critical Updates listed at the top
of the download list.
Once you have selected all of the items in the
list that you wish to download, you need to choose Download from the upper right
hand corner. (Figure 2) Windows
Update will customize its list for your computer, so you will not have to worry
about downloading items more then once to your computer.
