Problems
sending mail can occur for a couple reasons. The most common
problem that people run into is forgetting to set up authenticated
SMTP. SMTP authentication prevents people from sending out junk mail through our
servers by requiring a username and password when sending emails.
To fix this, check your account settings with the ones listed on our
setup guides site.
This is commonly caused by
the username and or password being incorrect. Try retyping in both
your username and password. Most people have them saved, and they
should not change, however sometimes they seem to.
Setting up a dialup
connection and setting internet explorer to use it is different versions
of operating systems (The software that runs your computer. IE Mac OS X,
Windows XP). For help setting up your dialup connection
specifically for your operating system, click the fix it link, and
select your OS.
With your dial up account, you get 5 free WebMail
accounts. WebMail is a web based email meaning you can't download
your mail into a program such as Outlook Express, or Eudora. WebMail
is similar to services like Hotmail and
Yahoo Mail, however WebMail
allows you to check your mail from anywhere in the
world with internet access.
With your account you can also have 5 MB of free web space.
This can be used to publish your own personal web site. If you need more
space than this, we have other mail and web hosting services.
You can change your password using the change password form that is linked off
of our homepage. If you have forgotten your password you will need to contact
the Help Desk.
Many customers with 56K
modems experience problems with disconnections. This is most
likely due to issues within the modem drivers on your computer.
Manufacturers who write the modem drivers frequently issue fixes in the
form of new driver software. You can download those patches or
upgrades at the modem manufacturers website. Or if you have a PC
from a manufacturer like Gateway, Compaq,
Hewlett Packard, or Dell
you can get them off of their support sites as well. We've created
a FAQ that helps explain the problem and assists you in finding updated
drivers for your modem. The FAQ can be found at
http://www.abbnebraska.net/home/support/faqs/56k.htm.
Another issue that will
cause a disconnect is that our routers are set to drop connections after
15 minutes of inactivity. This is done so that our modems won't be
filled up with users who aren't using the system. This conserves
resources for us and makes it easier for our other customers to enjoy
the service. Any data transferred between your computer and our
equipment will reset the timer to 0.
To change your email
address you will need to contact the billing offices, and let them know.
There is a $15 fee to change your email address, and this will also
change your username that you use to dial in with. You can contact
our office
at: (402) 426-6200 or 1 (888) 262-2661.
You can send all your web page files to our servers using FTP. We recommend
using WSFTP. FTP is similar to dragging and dropping files around on your own PC,
except you are moving the files between your computer and our servers.
Many of our customers like to have ABBnebraska.net be the first page they see when
they open up the internet. Sometimes this can be changed by accident, or
maybe you set up your connection manually and forgot to change this. To
change your homepage back to ABBNebraska.net, click the solution link above.
