A common question by many Internet users is how to change their homepage. Usually there are two reasons for this request.

Web surfers occasionally find themselves on one of those annoying web pages that ask “Would you like to set (insert name of web page) as your home page?” Some less scrupulous owners of web sites use this irritating tactic to forcibly drive people to their web site. If you accidentally click “Yes” your homepage will be that web site. That means that every time you open your browser (Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator) you’ll be directed there.

Another good reason to change your homepage is if you have a particular web site you’d like to start you Internet browsing with each day. For many people this is their local newspaper or their favorite sports team.

If you’d like to change your homepage, follow these instructions:

For users of Microsoft Internet Explorer, use these instructions:
1. Go to your computer’s control panel and find the icon titled “Internet Options.”
2. Double left-click this icon.
3. When it opens up, you’ll see a box titled home page. In this box, you’ll notice a line that states “You can change which page to use for your home page.” Underneath this line there is the word “Address” with a white box to its right.
4. In this box, type the address of the web site you’d like to use for your home page.
5. Click the “OK” button at the bottom of the window.
6. Your home page has now been changed.

For users of Netscape Navigator, use these instructions:
1. Open Netscape Navigator and left-click the “Edit” button.
2. Then choose “Preferences” from the list of options in the drop down menu.
3. Then choose “Navigator” from the next list of options.
4. You’ll then see a box with an area titled “Homepage.”
5. Enter the address of the web site that you’d like to use for your home page.
6. Your home page has now been changed.
