Your web browser is the program you use to view
web pages. The most common examples are Microsoft’s Internet
Explorer and Netscape’s Navigator. As the Internet evolves,
companies are continually upgrading their browsers to take full
advantage of new developments on the Internet and to offer a better
product than their competitors.
As a user of the Internet, it is important to make sure your browser
is up-to-date. If it isn’t you may encounter web sites that don’t
display on your screen as they should. Another problem with
out-of-date browsers is that you may not be able to do on-line
banking or shopping on some web sites. Often, if your browser is
out-of-date and unable to use a web page, a message will appear to
let you know this is the case. Another issue with out-of-date
browsers is your computer’s security. If you don’t have the most
recent version (including security patches) you might be susceptible
to a malicious attack from hackers looking for a vulnerable
computer.
What are the most up-to-date browsers? For Windows users with
Internet Explorer, it is version 6.0 and for Netscape Navigator, it
is version 7.2. If you use a Macintosh, the best browser to use is
Netscape Navigator 7.2 regardless of your operating system. For free

If you’re not sure what version of browser you’re using, it’s easy
to find out. For Windows users open your browser and left-click
“Help” on the menu at the top of the screen. Then left-click
“About.” A box containing the version you are using should appear.
For Macintosh users, click on the Apple menu at the top-left corner
of the screen. Then choose “About (the browser’s name).”
