| Be sure to follow some
traditional advice when shopping on-line |
Great deals can be found by shopping
on-line, but the old adage of buyer beware is still important when using
this modern form of commerce.
Some very basic advice will help ensure you’re happy with your purchase
and you don’t fall victim to those who use the Internet to exploit new
on-line shoppers. To protect yourself while shopping on-line, try to...
• Shop from trusted retailers – Most major retail stores have their
products on-line. By shopping with large nationally known companies,
you’re less likely to have problems if you need to return an item.
• Use caution if you don’t know the retailer - If you’re unfamiliar with
a retailer, look for contact information and sales, returns, and privacy
policies. If any of this information is missing, it raises red flags
about an on-line retailer’s credibility.
• Don’t buy things through unsolicited e-mail - Often these e-mails have
offers on popular products that seem too good to be true. Unfortunately
that’s usually the case.
• Keep records - Print and save all the confirmation pages from your
purchases. You never know if you’ll need them.
• Use the right credit card – It’s a good idea to use a credit card with
an anti-fraud program for your on-line purchases.
• Monitor your accounts – When you make an on-line purchase, use your
bank or credit card company’s web site to monitor purchases. This will
allow you to see if the correct account activity has occurred.
