2 large portobello mushrooms 1/4 cup olive oil 1 tablespoon soy sauce 1 tablespoon steak sauce (A-1 works well and is vegan) 1/4 teaspoon sugar 1 teaspoon minced fresh garlic OR 1/4 tsp garlic powder
Mix olive oil, sauces, sugar and garlic. Cut stem off mushrooms (save for soup stock). Wipe mushrooms with a damp paper towel. Dry with another paper towel. Put mushrooms and marinade in a heavy ziplock bag. Marinate 1 hour, turning occasionally.
Put mushrooms in baking pan and broil until nicely browned, turning once or twice and basting with marinade. Watch them carefully so they don't burn! Serve immediately on buns as sandwiches or serve openface using pan juices as a sauce. Season with salt and pepper and more steak sauce at table, if desired. Makes two sandwiches.
