CORRECTIONS DIVISION

The Corrections Division has 10 civilian corrections officers, 1 Sergeant & 1 Jail Deputy. A Captain oversees operations of the Corrections Division. The Washington County Jail houses inmates arrested by the Blair Police Department, Nebraska State Patrol, Washington County Sheriff's Department - as-well-as inmates from Burt County, and other jurisdictions. The Washington County Jail was originally built to house 17 inmates, an upgrade to double bunking resulted in the current capacity of 32. In 2011 the (ADP) average daily population of the jail was 30.75 prisoners per day -or- 96% of capacity. Inmates Processed Through Washington County Corrections - by year: *Includes INS inmates

Inmates are assigned to a cell which they
share with one another inmate. The cells include bunk beds, one
toilet, & one desk. The cell are approximately 10 ft x 7 ft or 70 square
feet in size. Inmates can be held in up to 1 year in the Washington County
Jail and on many occasions - are! All meals are prepared on site by staff members & inmate trustees with the average cost of inmate meals costing $1.62 per meal. In 2011 approximately 33,672 meals were prepared for inmates, housed in the jail. |
| All inmates must be processed through "booking". This process includes fingerprinting, photographs, as-well-as other booking procedures. All inmates are entered into the computer operated records management system, which details the inmates charges, medical condition, bond amount, etc.. |
